~Momma's Best~
Hello! My name is Amy Stewart. If you have made it to my page, I don't have to tell you that breast milk is the best, most perfect nutrition for your precious baby.
A little about me. I am a wife and have been married for 27 years. I am a mother to 8, and Mammy to a sweet little boy! My personal experience is that I breastfed 4 of my 8 children. A couple of them, not as successfully as I hoped. My last 4 children are adopted, and breastfeeding was not an option for them due to the circumstances at the time. I know the journey can be challenging, discouraging, and yet one of the best experiences you can have as a mommy. I also have a daughter who battled 3 hard months of breastfeeding due to lip and tongue ties. With hard work, and many tears of frustration and joy, she is meeting her goal and still breastfeeding her sweet baby boy! I tell you all of this because I know that something that is supposed to be so natural can be smooth sailing for some, and very difficult for many other mommas. I love gaining knowledge about just what a mom's body can do, and am passionate about helping mommas on their journey of breastfeeding.
My Professional Experience:
I received my bachelor degree in nursing from IU School of Nursing in December of 1996. I officially passed the NCLEX to be a registered nurse in January of 1997. I began my nursing career with Community Health Network in February 1997. In my 27 years with Community Network, I have worked ortho/neuro, medical, surgical, home care and post partum. Ten of those years I worked as a night shift post partum nurse, where my love was founded for helping mothers breastfeed and learning more about it. I obtained my Certification for Lactation Counselor in June of 2021. In July of 2022, I received certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. This nursing role as an IBCLC is by far my favorite, and I feel so thankful and privileged to be able to walk beside families during these precious moments.
Why "Momma's Best"?
There are many factors that come into play with breastfeeding. I want you to know that I will commit my best effort in helping you, and supporting you to reach your goals.
I know that if you are coming to me, that breast milk is very important to you, and that you want the best chance of being successful. I will give my best to you.
I vow to be a good listener and give you compassionate care as I work with you during your breastfeeding journey.
If we encounter obstacles that feel overwhelming or frustrating, I will give my best time and efforts in helping figure out a plan that works toward the goals you have. If needed, I will use other resources, and will refer you to other professionals when I know it will be beneficial to you and your baby.
I would love the opportunity to provide prenatal education to get you prepared for those first hours and days with your newborn. If you're struggling or just feel unsure about how things are going with breastfeeding, I would count it a privilege to consult with you. Whatever stage of breastfeeding that you are in, I would love the opportunity to be part of your journey.
